Welcome to Treeworker!

Welcome to Treeworker!

Good afternoon campers! Well maybe not; I remember camping out at Easter last year & it was above 20degrees celcius. Not quite so keen this time around.

Hopefully this update will find all of our customers busy with work & also with plenty of recreational time to do whatever you all do in your spare time.
Apologies for it being such a long time since I put pen to paper but as well as being incredibly slack I’ve also been just as busy. The usual post New Year slump in treework passed us by this time around & we’ve barely stopped for a gasp of air in between attempting to get orders out on time & servicing the trees which our clients are kind enough to allow us to play with!

Although there have been no major additions to the product range recently, there are a number of items that will, hopefully, arrive with us in the not too distant future. The Meindl Airstream boots seem to have overcome the initial shock that their colour created & there are now many treeworkers in the field experiencing the quality that is synonymous with the name Meindl. We are working on creating a section within the shop for splicing tools & products, as it seems that many more individuals are turning on to the craft of rope splicing. This, of course, is a skill that was once a part of every trained tree surgeon/arborists personal armoury. In fact, it’s not too long ago that 3-strand ropes were immediately shortened to create self-spliced prussick loops, lanyards or both.

The show season will soon be upon us once again &, at present, we are booked to be at the Celebration of Trees at Capel Manor College, 25th-26th April; the Arboricultural Association Trade Fair 13th-14th June & I’m sure we will be at the APF show at Cannock in September. I’ve not currently looked at dates yet but it is possible that we’ll also be at ISA tree climbing competitions in a smaller format.

The Celebration of Trees event at Capel Manor has become the venue for the Students Tree Climbing Competition in recent years. This year we are pleased to support young, up & coming treeworkers as main sponsors for the event. We’ll also be running tree-climbing workshops with open discussion on all treework related topics so please drop by & enjoy as much time as you can spare with the Treeworker team.

Many thanks for your continued support.
Be safe.
Noddy

A Guide to Good Climbing Practice

Treepod January 4th saw us involved with a 'first of its kind' project with an old friend, who after being forced out of treework following a serious skydiving accident four years has laid his hand to things new. Treepod is the brainchild of Thomas Crawley who studied design technology at university and works regularly with wood sculpture, cabinet making and other joinery type projects. Treepod has been in design and construction for over 6months prior to the installation of the prototype model, a 2.5 metre diameter camouflaged sphere. Using the Gefa crown support system as the base for suspending the treepod in situ, it was winched into position using a good variety of personal rigging equipment and more than a few minutes of mental nut cracking.
Finally after a long cold day, there it was suspended (almost) horizontal within the canopy of three beech trees. The proof then would have to be in the pudding so in we all climbed to test whether the bracing calculations were sufficient. No problem! A sigh of relief came from myself. What an amazing space the treepod is. If you have never sat inside a completely spherical room before you really should put it on the must do list.

You can visit the treepod website through this link and find all contact details there. Please take a moment as this really is something fresh & very different from a conventional treehouse.
